Notes for Jacob SUMMERALL, Jr:
this was spelled Summerall Notes for Lars Rambo:
The family resided in Orange County, North Carolina during the 1750's where Lawrence was a Captain in the Colonial Army and an Indian agent. By 1765 he had relocated in the Ninty-Six district of South Carolina. He was one of the founders of the Horn Creek Baptist Church.
Lars (Lawrence) was a Regulator, one of the frontiersmen who banded together to provide protection from the frequent Cherokee raids. Some Regulators had whipped Jacob Summerall who was involved in the Indian trade. In a letter Summerall wrote to John Stuart, he wrote that Lawrence didn't think anymore of Stuart than he did of Summerall. Rambo also said Stuart wasn't "nothing but an old Cherokee agent," and that Stuart "ought to be taken and whipped and his goods taken from him for giving to the damn'd Indians to kill the Back Woods People."

Notes
Scource: genealogy of the Summerall Families, by Gregg Price.
Jacob resided in the Windsor Township, Edgefield County, South Carolina. He owned land on Horse Creek, Stevens Creek, and Nobles Creek (Today called Horn Creek); near the head waters of the Savannah River.
Jacob was a staunch Tory (Loyalist) in the American Revolution, and suffered at the hands of the Regulators. He and his brother, Jesse, fought on opposite sides, as Jesse was a patriot for the American side.
Jacob was one of the leading men in the back country of South Carolina as early as 1752. For many years he was Justice of the Peace, but was removed from office by the Regulators once, then he was reinstated when he convinced the council he had been unjustly accused. Later, the Regulators visited him, tied him to a post, and flogged him. His wife, Ann, had to appeal to their friend, Col. John Stuart, Principle Councelor, to get help for his release.
