Notes for Bartholomew STOVALL:

It is recorded in the Quaker's Book of Births at Albury Parish, Surrey, England that Bartholomew Stovall was born on August 24, 1665. The son of Georgeand Joane { Tickner } Stovall. The next record of Bartholomew Stovall reflects that at their monthly meeting, the Quakers on the 7th day of the third month of 1675 at Guildford, Surrey Parish, it was published that the widow Stovall hath a son, Bartholomew, age 10 years to be put to apprentice or to such service as may be offered and the Quakers may advise. the non - conformist Quaker not being in favor, Bartholomew was not apprenticed to a trade. As he grewup in Albury he heard that in the American Colonies land was available for the taking.

To enhance the possibility of immigrating, it was recorded in the register of the St. Peter and St. Paul Church at Albury, Surrey that on November 11, 1663 Bartholomew was baptized into the Church of England and signed his mark to that document. After having been baptized, Bartholomew Stovall, in 1684,signed an indenture for passage to the Colony of Virginia.

This indenture Made the 7th of July 1684 between Bartholomew Stoell, aged about 21 years of one
party, and John Bright of London, Merchant, on the other party. Witnesseth that the said Bartholomew
Stoell doth thereby covenant, promise, and grant to and with the said John Bright his execcutors
and Assigns, from the day of the date hereof, until his first and next arrival in Virginia and after,
for and during the term of four years, to serve in such service and imployment,as he the said John
Bright or his Assigns shall there imploy him according to the custom of the country in the like kind. In
consideration whereof the said john Bright doth hereby covenant and grant to and with the said Bartholomew Stoell to pay for his passing, and to find and allow meat, and drink, apparrel, and lodging, with other necessaries, during the said term, and at the end of said term to pay unto him acordinge to the custom of the Country.

HANNAH, AND WIFE, ANN.
