Notes for William "Bill" OLIVE, Jr.:

From James Dewey O'Brien 9/30/03
Relevant to the probable physical appearance of William OLIVE II:
Granny (Mary Jane Knott), like her full sister and brother, and first cousins on the Massey side, was quite brunet of eyes and hair... Well, Uncle Rufe (Knott) was not quite so. Among Granny's children, Uncle Pete, Aunt Eveline, Aunt Becky Crump, were distinctly brunet like Granny.

Uncle Buster (James Steadman OLIVE) and Uncle Ross (his name per his children) was Ross John, but my father told a story about when he was in school and a teacher asked Uncle Ross his name. He answered John Ross, sir. So all the kids called him John Rosser as a joke. So you may find him on a census either way (that's why I repeat the story).

Uncle Buster and Uncle Ross were "in between" in coloring. But Aunt Lucy (OLIVE, McPhearson) was quite blonde and fair originally and Aunt Carrie (OLIVE, Crump) was "in between" but distinctly leaning toward the "light" side. Her daughter, Anile, was a very distinctive reddish-blonde although her father Uncle Nick Crump had very dark hair as did his brothers.
Conclusion: I think it likely that William OLIVE II was blonde with slight build. JD O'Brien

  2. Our Colonial Ancestors, p. 19 His descendants say that Granny (Mary Jane Knott OLIVE) made three trips to Texas and, from her own accounts to me, she lived there for some time. She told us many stories of her life in Bosque County, Texas. One story I heard was Aunt Lucy was born there on Christmas day and that Granny was completely alone except for her two older children.
