Natchitoches Times, May 15, 1942 - Obituary - Man Drowns in Old River Near Powhatan Friday
Charles Cooper Youngblood, 61 years, 9 months old, was drowned in Old River near Powhatan on Friday afternoon about 5:30 o'clock.
The accident occurred near his home when Mr. Youngblood was attempting to turn his auto around and in some way the machine
got out of control and went into the river, swollen by flood water.
The accident was witnessed by a colored farm hand. The machine with the body of Mr. Youngblood in it was removed from the river an hour later.
The deceased managed a plantation at Powhatan for the Exchange Bank for many years.
Survivors are the widow, a son C.F. Youngblood of Robeline; his mother, Mrs Sarah Youngblood of Marthaville;
five brothers, Will and Ellis of Marthaville, Ray and Reece of Powhatan and Cecil of Robeline; and as sister, Mrs. Nettie Rawls of Robeline.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 o'clock on Sunday afternoon from the residence of Mr. Bob Clark of Powhatan with the Rev. Murl Platte, pastor of the Powhatan Baptist church, and the Rev. E.J. Phares, pastor of the Marthaville Baptist church, officiating.
Interment was in Pisgah cemetery under the direction of the Blanchard funeral home.
Pallbearers were Blanchard Cutright, Oneil Wood, Dan Pearson, Alex Young, Joe Durr and Claude Barnhill.
