from Herman's brother James Dewey O'Brien; July 31, 2009,
. Herman never went by the name of Herman O'Brien Crump.. just the assumed name of Herman Curtis Crump.
. He was never adopted. I am sure. Could say: Reared by his Aunt Carrie Lee Olive Crump
. Whatever the census might have said, Homer and Anile were never the heads of household where Herman lived. Homer and Anile lived in Aunt Carrie's house (hers and Uncle Nick's) both when they lived on the Allen Road and after Uncle Nick had the house built where Aunt Carrie lived (Uncle Nick stayed mostly in the oil fields until he retired). on hiway #120 just west (toward Marthaville) from where Billy Ingram's house built many years later. The second house built on that property was on the east side of the property, built for Homer and Anile but Herman never lived with them. He lived with Aunt Carrie until he finished high school and the Army got him for WWII. As Uncle Nick was away, the census taker may have regarded Homer as head of household. He never was. Just a live-in son-in-law until they built the aforesaid house for him & Anile.
. Both of Herman's sons (Nicholas (Nickie) and Curtis (whom I never saw) would have borne the surname Crump. I never knew what happened to Curtis after his parents divorced, nor to Suzanne. As the birth certificates of both of Herman's sons would no doubt show their surnames as Crump, that may be legally correct. But for a genealogical chart perhaps the problem could be solved by showing, for example, Nicholas (O'Brien) Crump and Curtis (O'Brien) Crump. I leave it to your good judgment.
