Thomas was a planter and a hunter. He first resided in Richmond County, North Carolina. Then he lived in Joe's Creek, South Carolina from 1761 to 1793. He was granted 100 acres of land on the Alabama River, Anson County, Georgia about 1794. A passport was issued in his name in Georgia on Wednesday, March 16, 1808, when he moved his family to Marion County, Mississippi. His place was called "Lovelace", on a hill three miles south of Columbia and just south of Foxworth on the west side of the Pearl River. A series of deeds of Gift in Marion County, Mississippi, beginning in 1817, proves the children of this family. All bore the stipulation that the property remain in the hands of his wife, Ann, until she dies. In 1819, the deeds did not mention Ann, but said, "remains in my hands until my death". It can be assumed that Ann died before 1819.
