To John Anderson,
Thanks so much for your reply. Based on an E-mail that I received from Patricia Singleton, you did communicate with her. This is how my genealogy ties in with the Wallace families:

It appears that my great great aunt, Nancy Lay, born Dec. 17, 1810 and daughter of Isaac Lay I and Mary Parker, was the first wife of Maxamillon Wallace, Sr. who was born in 1802 and died in 1845. They had children John Parker Wallace, Benjamin Wallace born 2 Sept. 1826, Maxamillon Wallace, Jr. 18 October 1827, Thomas Jefferson Wallace born 15 January 1834, George Washington Wallace born April 11, 1832 and died 22 January 1884 and Carmelita Wallace born 1837.

Nancy Lay and Maximilien Wallace, son of James Wallace and Marie Hyacinthe Gagnie were married in a civil marriage and a few years later, Nancy and Maximilien Wallace were married May 16, 1835 in a Catholic ceremony. Nancy Lay was baptised on the same day as her marriage. Two of her children were baptised the same day.

Nancy Lay died sometime after the birth of Carmelita Wallace in 1837 because Isaac Lay I (my 3rd great grandfather) was named tutor of the minor child Carmelita Wallace.

I also see that Coonrad Cansler Allen, who was my great great grandmother's (Mary Adeline or Adelaide Allen) brother was married to Mary Wallace daughter of James Wallace and Mary Glass.

Another connection to the Wallace family was Ellias O'neil's wife, Elizabeth Wallace, who was appointed tutor of the five children of Isaac Lay II and Mary Adeline or Adelaide Allen after their deaths. My great grandmother, Sarah Louise (Sallie) Lay, was one of these five orphans. On the document Ellias O'neil was listed as an uncle to Mary Elizabeth Lay, Sarah Louise Lay, Nancy Adaline or Adalaide Lay, John Franklin Lay, and William Jefferson Lay children of Mary Adeline or Adelaide Allen and Isaac Lay II.

The Willis Allen married to Sarah Lou Powell would also have been a brother of my great great grandmother, Mary Adeline or Adelaide Allen.

Anyway, my Lays and Allens were related through marriage to several of the Wallaces. If you have any questions, feel free to E-mail.

Thanks! Martha Henagan Luby - July 2006
